Strange BNSF / Santa Fe train

So one Friday as I’m working from home I happened to look out the window as a train went by. This isn’t that uncommon as I like to see what locomotives and rolling stock are going by and it’s pretty easy to hear when one is coming. When I looked up, I saw some tank cars and hoppers and then two Santa Fe red and silver warbonnets at the back. I rarely see the warbonnets on the tracks across the street, so I was excited to see them go by and thought about taking a picture, but it was already too late.

About two hours later, I again looked up as another train was going by…and it just so happened to be the same two Santa Fe warbonnets pulling a couple of tank cars and a few hoppers – and a caboose! I’d never seen a caboose on the tracks, only in rail museums. I think I may have yelled out “Oh #%@!” and reached for my phone to take a picture, but by the time I took one I just barely got a picture of the caboose before it disappeared into the trees and behind some buildings.

Since I have a video camera pointing at the intersection I was able to go back and see more of the consist, but unfortunately the video isn’t the best quality. I put up the video of the train going both directions, hoping that someone would be able to inform me on what this train is used for, and where it was heading both times.

Edit: the day I saw this train was March 14, 2014.
